Final Fantasy XIV a Realm Reborn Celebration of 5 Years
Based on some number crunching done by fan boys, it was calculated that players have spent 1,800,000,000,000 GIL on repairs in-game which equates to enough funds for repairing the Leaning Tower of Pisa for the next 530,000 years.
Interestingly, they also derived a theory which stated that the in-game music lasts for a total of 2,000 minutes, which implies you could drive from Chicago to Santa Monica along Route 66 and listen to the entire soundtrack on a loop for the entire journey.
After the stunning reversal of fortune by Square Enix, Realm Reborn was met with a much warmer reception from fans and critics, which is why it’s managed to soar successfully for the past five years.
A massive user base of 14 million players is an impressive milestone for FFXIV given the rough beginning it has, which is why we can now safely claim that when it comes to delivering what people want, Realm Reborn is delivering in spades.
The game’s unique approach to the re-engineering that went behind the development of the MMORPG has helped it’s sustainability in the highly competitive market.
The original producer Hiromichi Tanaka, code named it ‘Rapture’ for development in those periods where it underwent various trials and errors, because previous titles had tendency to be filled with bugs, for that the patches would be sent out to remedy the end user, in which it was losing out on precious customers.
The plot line, which was primarily created by Sato; who is known for his contribution to various screenplays and Mangas in anime and other Japanese pop-culture ideologies, is gripping and adventurous and has been the backbone for the success of the game.
Set in the fictional world of Hydaelyn, the game is initially located in one of the many realms of Hydaelyn, known as Eorzea. Among the mountainous region and the icy cold winds that dominate Eorzea, is a lure known as “Aether” for which people travel from far and wide to lay their hands on.
Since the beginning of times, Eorzea has witnessed its share of prosperous Astral eras and disastrous Umbral eras.
With the end of Final Fantasy XIV 1.0, the Seventh Umbral Era had started, exactly where A Realm Reborn is launched. It begins with the foreboding evil from the unleashing of Bahamut, which has destroyed much of the land and released dark omens signalling great suffering to come.
Three major city states exist within Eorzea: the bustling city of Ul’dah, the forestry zone of Gridania, and the marine city-state of Limsa Lominsa.
Each state has a Grand Company with an economic and military organization tasked with duty of defending their land. Adventurers join the organizations to further their ambitions in the game, while simultaneously maintaining the peace over Eorzea.
The main enemies of the citizens of Eorzea are namely the Beast Tribe races and the Garlean Empire.
While the Garlean Empire nation comprises of technological beings hailing from outside of Eorzea, who seek to conquer the land and its Aether that powers their various equipments like Airships and armors, the Beast Tribes is a monstrous clan devoid of humanity and repetitively tries to create havoc in the peaceful nation of Eorzea.
Moreover, there is the additional threat from the Void consisting of mysterious shadowless agents trying to create troubles in the realm.
Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in which the player controls a customized Adventurer avatar from one of the five playable races of Eorzea. There two tribes provided for each race, and all but two of them allow for the selection of female or male character classes.
For the purpose of retaining the additional perk of character creation, the undercurrents of the gameplay MMO or more appropriately, the pure RPG has been redesigned for the players to choose from various avatars provided or customize according to their heart’s content.
The players accumulate various experience points to upgrade their levels; bringing in more unique items to the gameplay and revamping their gaming approach. The game’s opening varies depending on which starting location of the game is chosen and deduced.
Two different types of quests are available for players: story quests, which are unlocked as characters accumulate experience points (EXP) and raise their experience level while unlocking new abilities.
Compared to final fantasy 13 where party-based gameplay at the forefront all times, the gameplay in XIV is adjusted so that players can go for longer periods without joining a party. The auto attack option is also not available. Through defeating monsters, crafting items, and completing quests, players accumulate EXP which, when a certain threshold is reached, automatically increases the players levels.
